Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis are becoming increasingly common problems amongst people today, elderly or young.  Thankfully, there are nutritional supplements available that can aid us in this fight against these terrible, painful, debilitating conditions.  In fact, it is proven that some nutritional supplements can give us a drastic edge in our fight against OA and RA.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids – As omega-3 fatty acids are very effective as anti-inflammatories, they can effectively battle the progression of RA. Omega-3 fatty acids are also used to treat OA, and have been proven to drastically reduce symptoms and can sometimes allow for our bodies to use less NSAIDs.

EPA/DHA - It is said that 1400 milligrams per day of EPA and 1000 milligrams per day of DHA can really help, and is recommended to use to treat OA and RA.  One of the best kinds to get is the Super Omega-3 EPA/DHA that includes other ingredients like Olive Fruit Extract and Sesame Lignans.

Curcumin - Derived from Turmeric, Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory that will help inhibit certain enzyme activity that is harmful, and can help to treat both OA and RA for this reason. Curcumin users, however, usually fail to get the amount they need for lack of Piperine ( a component of black pepper.).

SAMe (S-Adenosylmethionine) – SAMe is a form of an amino acid called methionine. However, it is the activated form, and so it naturally converts to cysteine in the body.  Not only does it help to fight OA and RA by protecting with anti-oxidants, but it helps to block harmful enzymes out of your cartilage.

Chondroitin - Chondroitin sulfate is a component of your articular cartilage that deals with the structure of your cartilage. Chondroitin has been proven to be of use against OA by helping to reduce pain and regain mobility.  It also serves to protect from further damage do to erosive osteoarthritis.

Glucosamine - Glucosamine occurs naturally to produce joint cartilage, but in the case of OA, the synthesis is defective. As a result, taking supplemental Glucosamine is good for joint cartilage growth. Studies have also shown that its anti-inflammatory and joint protective properties could be very useful to fight RA.

MSM - This is a molecule found in various body tissues, as well as some plants. It contains the same sulfur that is used by the body’s structural molecules, and so works well to treat OA.

Green Tea - The compounds found in green tea have proven to be effective in preventing the progression of OA and RA by inhibiting certain cytokines, thus being in a sense an effective anti-inflammatory.

Vitamin C - Vitamin C is filled with powerful anti-oxidants, the same kinds found in citrus fruits and green vegetables.  Therefore, vitamin C helps treat OA and RA by fighting oxidative stress and by keeping the body free from radicals. Because the body does not produce Vitamin C internally, it is important to get it from other sources.

Vitamin E - Another powerful anti-oxidant, Vitamin E is essential not only to everyday health, but especially so to those suffering from OA and RA.
